2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed: All the new cars

In recent years, the Goodwood Festival of Speed has become an ideal opportunity for automakers to debut their latest and greatest vehicles to the public.

The 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed hasn’t disappointed with a number of new vehicles being revealed, including the BMW M3 Touring, Ford Electric SuperVan, and Prodrive P25, among others.

The following is a rundown of some of the new cars that made their debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Alfa Romeo

Tonale

The Alfa Romeo Tonale small SUV was first revealed in February 2022 and is the Italian automaker’s first electrified vehicle. It’s making its UK debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Built at a refurbished Stellantis plant in Naples, the Tonale won’t arrive in Australia until the first half of 2023, with a standard hybridised-petrol engine.

Unfortunately, the flagship plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain won’t be available locally for the foreseeable future.

Alpine

A110 Tour de Corse 75

The Alpine A110 Tour de Corse 75 is a special edition of the compact sports car that’s inspired by the original A110 racer that completed the 1975 Tour de Corse.

There are going to be 150 examples of these special edition A110 models produced, but none of them will be coming to Australia due to recent ADR changes.

The A110 was axed locally in 2021, along with a number of other cars that didn’t conform with the now-compulsory Australian Design Rule 85/00 for side impact collisions.

Aston Martin

V12 Vantage

The Aston Martin V12 Vantage was first revealed in March 2022 and is the final car to feature the brand’s in-house-developed 5.2-litre V12 engine.

It’s making its public debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

All 333 examples of the limited edition V12 Vantage sold ahead of its reveal.

Bentley

Continental GT Mulliner W12

The Bentley Continental GT Mulliner W12 is the most recent addition to the brand’s line-up and is equipped with the 6.0-litre W12 engine from the GT Speed.

The high-performance coupe’s cabin features diamond-in-diamond quilting on the seats, doors, and rear quarter panels made up of both contrast and accent stitching. All up Bentley claims there are 400,000 stitches throughout the interior.

As a Mulliner model, buyers of this range-topping coupe can customise their vehicle from a wide selection of paint, leather, wood, metal, and stitching combinations.

Flying Spur S

The Bentley Flying Spur S is debuting at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed and comes with the option of either a hybrid V6 or V8 engine.

The debut of this new four-door sedan variant marks the first the S badge has been applied to a hybrid powertrain.

On the outside of the Flying Spur S are a number of gloss black trims, as well as sporty additions inside the cabin.

BMW

M3 Touring

The BMW M3 Touring was first revealed globally earlier in the week and is debuting in-the-metal at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

It’s BMW’s first production high-performance M3 wagon, following an E46 M3 wagon prototype from the 1990s.

The M3 Touring is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine producing 375kW of power and 650Nm of torque. It’s also used in the M3 sedan and M4 Competition coupe models.

Fisker

Ocean

The Fisker Ocean is making its UK debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, before production starts in November.

The Ocean range starts with a single electric motor setup producing 205kW of power, and extends to a dual electric motor setup producing 410kW.

All Fisker Ocean models have CATL-supplied battery packs ranging in size.

Ford

Electric SuperVan

The Ford Pro Electric SuperVan was revealed at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed and is loosely based on the recently revealed E-Transit Custom.

It features four electric motors making a total system output of 1471kW of power, and can do the 0-100km/h sprint in less than two seconds.

While the exterior’s lightweight composite body panels are said to be inspired by Ford’s upcoming electric mid-size van, the styling has been amped up with wide arches, a front splitter, and a large rear diffuser, among other changes.

Genesis

X Speedium Coupe concept

The Genesis X Speedium Coupe concept is making its first appearance in Europe, following its global unveiling in New York earlier in 2022.

This concept is a fastback version of the notchback Genesis X Concept revealed in March 2021. It also bears some similarities to the Genesis Essentia concept from 2018.

It has an evolution of the brand’s ‘Athletic Elegance’ design philosophy and has the signature ‘Two Lines’ design language throughout.

Kia

EV6 GT

The Kia EV6 GT high-performance electric crossover is making its debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Powering the EV6 GT is a dual-electric motor setup with total system outputs of 430kW of power and 740Nm of torque.

As previously reported, Kia has confirmed production of the EV6 GT for Australia won’t commence until the second half of 2022.

Land Rover

Defender 130

The extra-long Land Rover Defender 130 is making its in-person debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed… on the high-speed hillclimb route, naturally.

The Defender 130 offers room for eight with three rows of seating and is solely available with six-cylinder petrol and diesel engine options.

Land Rover Australia has previously confirmed order books for the Defender 130 will open on August 1, with a starting price of $124,150 before on-road costs.

Range Rover Sport

The new-generation Range Rover Sport is making its in-person debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Headline acts for the new Sport include a longer-range six-cylinder plug-in hybrid and a twin-turbocharged V8, alongside six-cylinder mild-hybrid petrols and diesels. A fully electric Range Rover Sport has also been confirmed.

Much of the recently-revealed range is now available to order, with local deliveries starting in the fourth quarter of 2022. The inline six-cylinder petrol engines will arrive a bit later, in 2023, while the electric model will be revealed in 2024.

Lexus

Electrified Sport concept

The mooted electric successor the Lexus’s iconic LFA V10 supercar is making its first appearance outside Japan at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Lexus itself calls the Electrified Sport concept a “vision for a future all-electric high-performance sports car – seen by many as a potential successor to the legendary Lexus LFA”.

Lexus suggests the acceleration time to 100km/h is expected to be in the low two-second range, and says the car will have a driving range of more than 700km.

Lotus

Eletre

Lotus’ first-ever SUV, the Eletre, is making its public debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Lotus Eletre is claimed to have a power output starting at 442kW, maximum range of around 600km, and a 0-100km/h sprint time of less than 3.0 seconds.

It’s not yet confirmed for Australia, but Lotus says it intends to import the car to Australia subject to ADR compliance.

Emira GT4

The Lotus Emira GT4 race car is making its public dynamic debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, taking on the iconic hillclimb.

Developed in conjunction with RML Group, a consultancy firm specialising in race cars, the Emira GT4 is significantly lighter and meaner than its road-going sibling.

The GT4 is powered by a 3.5-litre Toyota V6 fitted with a Harrop supercharger, which is tuned to deliver 298kW at 7200rpm.

Maserati

Grecale

The Maserati Grecale SUV is making its UK debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Grecale slots underneath the Levante and will be available with four-cylinder and V6 engines at launch. An electric version is on the way.

A spokesperson for Maserati’s distributor in Australia, Ateco, confirmed the petrol-powered Grecale will arrive in the first quarter of 2023. The electric Grecale will also make the trip, though timing has yet to be confirmed.

MC20 Cielo

The Maserati MC20 Cielo spyder is also making its UK debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The MC20 Cielo is built around the same carbon and composite chassis as the fixed-roof model, but features an electrically-retractable glass roof.

A spokesperson for Australian Maserati distributor Ateco has confirmed the Maserati MC20 Cielo will arrive in mid-2023.

McLaren

Artura GT4

The McLaren Artura GT4 is making its in-person debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed after being revealed just a few days ago.

It features power from a non-hybrid version of the turbocharged V6 engine from the road car.

McLaren says the Artura GT4 is 100kg lighter than its predecessor, the 570S GT4, and says the new V6 engine offers better throttle response and fuel economy than the twin-turbo V8 that featured in the latter.

Mercedes-AMG

One

The Mercedes-AMG One hypercar is making its dynamic debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Essentially a Formula 1 car for the road, the Mercedes-AMG One is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged hybrid V6 engine and four electric motors. Total system output is 782kW of power.

Initially meant to launch in 2019, the One has been held back by the challenge of making a powertrain derived from F1 work on the road, and having it meet ever-tightening emissions standards.

Nissan

Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute concept

The Nissan Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute concept is debuting at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, taking on the Goodwood rally circuit.

Meant to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of Nissan’s participation in the East African Rally, the Juke concept has been modified with off-road tyres, enlarged wheel arches, and driving lights.

Inside, changes consist of an Alcantara steering wheel, a hydraulic handbrake, a fire extinguisher, and an intercom system.

Pagani

Huayra Codalunga

The Pagani Huayra Codalunga is making its debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

It’s an ultra-exclusive longtail hypercar paying homage to race cars and coachbuilt cars of the 1960s.

Polestar

Polestar 5 prototype

Polestar is giving festival-goers a “first glance” at its upcoming Polestar 5 all-electric liftback at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, before it launches in production form in 2024.

The Polestar 5 will pack a whopping 650kW of power and 900Nm of torque from its dual-motor electric powertrain, up 90kW on even the most powerful Porsche Taycan, the Taycan Turbo S.

Polestar has previously said the 5, which will look like the Precept concept, will offer “class-leading dynamics, rigidity and safety features” thanks to its bonded aluminium chassis.

Porsche

718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance racer is making its in-person debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Cayman GT4 ePerformance is a follow-up to its Mission R concept car, and packs a dual-electric motor setup producing 735kW of power in its most powerful mode.

The battery pack and electric motor are based on those of the concept car, which itself borrowed from the Taycan. Under the skin, however, it’s built on the bones of the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

Prodrive

P25

The Prodrive P25 is debuting at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. It’s being sent on an “extensive test and development” program afterwards.

The P25 is modern-day Subaru Impreza 22B STI, designed to commemorate 25 years since the debut of the two-door Impreza World Rally Car (WRC) racer.

Priced from £460,000 ($A809,517plus VAT in the UK, Prodrive will only build 25 of these Subaru 22B-inspired cars at its headquarters in Banbury, UK ahead of first deliveries later in 2022.

Renault

5 EV concept

The cute, retro-inspired Renault 5 all-electric hatchback is being shown off in concept form at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The new Renault 5 concept was first revealed in early 2021, and is inspired by the 1972 original.

Renault has confirmed the all-electric city hatchback will make debut in production form during 2022, ahead of production kicking off in 2024.

Zenvo

TSR-S

Zenvo is showing off its latest commissioned TSR-S model at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. It was first revealed in 2020.

It features a twin-supercharged flat-plate V8 engine producing 877kW of power and has hybrid transmission which can remove the harshness of the traditional ‘dog-box’ gearshifts.

The TSR-S is priced at €1.45 million ($A2.21 million) and production is limited to five cars per year.
